Correlation Between Acceptance of Illness and Comfort Level in Patients With Heart Failure: A Descriptive Study

Background: Acceptance of illness is crucial in chronic diseases such as heart failure (HF), which persists throughout a patient’s lifetime, significantly affecting adaptation to treatment and lifestyle modifications. While the relationship between the acceptance of illness and the quality of life in HF patients is well-documented, its correlation with comfort levels remains unexplored. Aim: This study aimed to explore the correlation between acceptance of illness and comfort levels among HF patients. Methods: This descriptive study included 106 HF patients from the cardiology service of a university hospital. The study data was collected between November 2019 and February 2020 through face-to-face interviews using a personal information form, the Acceptance of Illness Scale, and the General Comfort Questionnaire. In the analysis of descriptive statistics, various statistical tests were employed, including Student’s t-test, One-Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), Welch’s test for assessing group variances, Bonferroni test, Games-Howell test, and Pearson’s correlation coefficient for analyzing pairwise comparisons. The Effect of the Fear of COVID-19 on Treatment Adherence and Health-Seeking Behavior in Individuals with Type 2 Diabetes

Objective: This descriptive and cross-sectional study aimed to determine the impact of COVID-19 induced fear on the treatment adherence and health-seeking behavior of individuals with type 2 diabetes. Methods: The sample for this research consisted of 150 type 2 diabetes patients who attended the Mersin City Training and Research Hospital endocrinology outpatient clinics for treatment and follow-up. Data collection involved the use of a Personal Information Form, the COVID-19 Fear Scale, the Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus Patient Treatment Adherence Scale, and the Health-Seeking Behavior Scale. Data was analyzed using Student’s t-test, One Way ANOVA and Multiple Linear Regression analysis. Findings: Among the individuals participating in the study, it was determined that while 54.7% were female, 48.7% had an HbA1c level of 8.1 and above, 64% used insulin, 80.7% developed complications related to diabetes and the average age of the participants were 62.9±11.9. Furthermore, the majority were not diagnosed with COVID-19, and they did not require hospitalization due to COVID-19. The effect of reiki and acupressure on pain, anxiety and vital signs during femoral sheath removal in patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention: A randomized controlled study

Objective This study was conducted to determine the effect of reiki and acupressure on pain, anxiety, and vital signs during femoral sheath removal in patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention. Methods The study, which was conducted as a prospective randomized controlled study, was carried out with 84 patients: reiki group (n = 28), acupressure group (n = 28), and control group (n = 28). Twenty minutes before the femoral catheter was extracted, 18 minutes of reiki was applied to the seven chakra regions in the reiki group, and 20 minutes of acupressure was applied to the LI4, HT7, and PC6 points in the acupressure group. The control group received standard care. All three groups were given the assessment with Visual Analog Scale, Spielberger State Anxiety Scale, and 5 minutes before & 5 minutes after sheath removal and vital sign data also collected at these time points. Results After the intervention, it was determined that the pain and anxiety scores of both the reiki and acupressure groups were significantly lower than the pain and anxiety scores of the control group (p < 0.05). Emotions, Thoughts and Experiences of Diabetes:A Qualitative Study Patients:

Background: Diabetes affects individuals physically, mentally, socially and financially. Aims: The aim of this study was to determine what it means for patients to live with diabetes mellitus, to reveal patients’ feelings, thoughts and wishes, and to examine their perspectives and coping strategies regarding the disease. Methodology: This work is a qualitative study. The sample consisted of 37 patients. After the data were collected, content analysis was performed. Results: Out of the patients in the study, 3 main themes with 10 subthemes emerged from the content analysis. The results showed that diabetes adversely affected the participants’ lives; they experienced psychological, physical and social problems related to the illness; and they exhibited a fatalistic approach feeling convinced that everything comes from God and feeling thankful in coping with these problems. Conclusions: Diabetes patients deal with the difficulties they experience that a holistic nursing approach is required.

Living with atrial fibrillation: an analysis of patients' perspectives

Purpose The aim of this study was to determine the perceptions of patients with atrial fibrillation regarding the disease, to reveal their feelings, thoughts and wishes, and to investigate their perspectives and coping behaviors towards their condition. Methods Phenomenological methodology was used. The study population consisted of a total of 225 patients treated by the cardiology department of a university hospital, while the study sample consisted of 32 patients who met the inclusion criteria. A semistructured interview addressed perceptions of patients with atrial fibrillation regarding the disease. Data were collected by asking the participants the three questions on the In-depth Individual Interview Form. Data were analyzed using the continuous comparative method of Colaizzi. Results In the study sample, 50.0% of participants were female, 69.0% were married, and the mean age was 66.90 years (± 7.90 years). As a result of the content analysis, four main themes and 15 subthemes were identified: patient's mental status regarding the disease, patient's social status regarding the disease, patient's physical condition regarding the disease, and disease management and coping with the disease. Emotional intellengence in university students

This study was conducted to determine the status of university students' emotional intelligence. The sample of this descriptive research is composed of students who have stuidied at a four year university. They are selected according to criteria of faculty and gender based on the random sampling. The data was collected using "Personal Information Form", Bar-On Emotional Intellegent Inventory. Mean, standard deviation, Independent Samples t-test, one way ANOVA tests were used for the evaluation. This study, female university students' emotional intelligence total scale and all of subscale of the mean scores were determined to be higher than male students. Opinions of individuals who have had myocardial infarction about sex

This study was conducted as a descriptive and qualitative research to understand the opinions of individuals who have had myocardial infarction about sex, the impact of the disease on their sexual lives and their counseling needs. The study included 200 patients registered in a cardiology department of a university hospital while the study population consisted of 32 patients meeting the eligibility criteria of the study. The qualitative data of the study were collected by addressing a total of 12 questions in the Individual In-depth Interview to the study population. Semi-structured interviews were utilized to explore sexuality. In data analysis stage, digital voice records were transcribed first, then these transcripts were combined with observation notes and the raw data were processed for content analysis.
