Typologically, languages can be classified as Verb-framed languages and Satellite-framed languages according to the core feature in the verb (Talmy, 1985, 1991). In Satellite-framed languages (e.g. English), manner of motion is typically encoded in the verb, while the path of motion is expressed by prepositional phrases. In Verb-framed languages (e.g. Turkish), the verb usually encodes the path of motion while the manner of motion is encoded in manner adverbials. Satellite-framed languages do have verbs which encode path information and Verb-framed languages have verbs encoding manner of motion.
