Cranial Morphometrics of a Stranded Common Bottlenose Dolphin Tursiops truncatus (Montagu, 1821) in Mersin Bay (Northeastern Mediterranean, Turkey)

On 10 November 2017, a young male common bottlenose dolphin Tursiops truncatus (Montagu, 1821), 185 cm in total length (TL), was found dead on the Mersin Marina (36°46'065"N, 34°34'212"E) in Northeastern Mediterranean coast of Turkey. Measurements of the sample performed and documented. The specimen buried to obtain the skeleton of the individual. At the end of this process, the sample was deposited in the Museum of the Systematic, Faculty of Fisheries, Mersin University, (Catalogue no: MEUMC-17- 11-001). The morphometric measurements can contribute to ongoing fisheries biology and taxonomic studies of T. truncatus from Mediterranean Sea waters. First Record of the Pempheris rhomboidea (Kossmann Räuber, 1877) from Mersin Bay, Northeastern Mediterranean Sea

In this study, eight individuals of Pempheris rhomboidea (Kossmann & Räuber, 1877) were for the first time caught in the Mersin Bay, Northeastern Mediterranean Sea. Some morphometric and meristic characters of these individuals were measured. The average standard length (SL): 90.13 mm, total length (TL): 112.62 mm, the length of longest pectoral fin (LPF): 25.88 mm, the length of longest dorsal fin ray (LDF): 21.25 mm, SL/LPF: 3.88, SL/LDF: 4.24, A: III, 39-42; D: VI, 9; LL pore scales: 55-58. The ratio of eye diameter (ED) to standard length (SL) is 7.95. The presence of the non-indigenous Pempheris rhomboidea was reported for the first time from Northeastern Mediterranean Sea and second time fromTurkish marine waters.

Occurrence of the lesser spotted dogfish (Scyliorhinus caniculaLinnaeus 1758) in the international waters of Mersin Bay, Turkey

Eighty-five specimens of the lesser spotted dogfish, Scyliorhinus canicula Linnaeus, 1758, was caught by a bottom trawl in the international waters of the Mersin Bay in May 2018. Some of the caught individuals were preserved in 4% formalin and was deposited in the Museum of the Systematic, Faculty of Fisheries, Mersin University, (catalogue number: MEUFC-18-11-079). The depth of sampling area is between 274 and 641 m. A total of 13 trawling operations were carried out. The total number of caught individuals was 85 and on average 5 individuals were caught in each operation. Aims: In this study, an individual of H. griseus was caught from the Mersin Bay and this ichthyologic note presents a new female record of H. griseus for Mersin Bay, Mediterranean coast of Turkey. A female rudderfish, Centrolophus niger (Gmelin, 1789) was caught by a trawler boat at a depth of 400 m on the shores of the Büyükeceli (Northeastern Mediterranean Sea). Its total length was 51.9 cm. This paper reports the fifth location along the Mediterranean and Aegean Sea coast of Turkey and the presence of the species in the Büyükeceli coast from the Mediterranean coast of Turkey.

Some deep-sea decapod crustaceans from the international waters of Mersin Bay(North Levant Basin, Turkey)

The deep-see decapod crustacean species sampled from trawling operations carried out in the open waters of Mersin Bay (Coordinates: 36.24853N-34.36491E, 36.18839N-43.38847E, 36.17065N-34.40686E, and 36.07227N34.53326E) in May 2018 were identified. Samples were preserved in ethyl alcohol and were deposited in the Museum of the Systematic, Faculty of Fisheries, Mersin University, (catalogue number: MEUDC-17-11-001, MEUDC-18-12- 010-014). Accumulation and Effect of Chromium on Protein and Glycogen Levels of Palaemonetes pugio

Total metal accumulation and the levels of total protein and glycogen were measured in Palaemonetes pugio after exposing the animals to 0.05, 0.1 and 0.2 ppm concentrations of chromium over 1, 7 and 15 days. Metal accumulation in tisuues was measured using atomic absorbtion spectrophotometric techniques and the levels of total protein and glycogen were determined Lowry and Anthron methods, respectively. No mortality was observed under the effect of chromium at any concentrations and exposure periods tested. Total metal accumulation increased with increasing concentrations of chromium at given exposure period while total protein and glycogen levels showed a decrease on day 15th compared with day 1.

An immature specimen of the blackmouth catshark, Galeus melastomus Rafinesque, 1810, was caught by a bottom trawl in the international waters of the Mersin Bay in May 2018. This species was recorded earlier from Israel Open Waters, and Marmara, Aegean and Mediterranean Sea. This is the third record for the southern coast of Turkey and the first record for Mersin Bay

First record of Tetragonurus cuvieri Risso, 1810 (Tetragonuridae) from the Eastern Mediterranean.

A single specimen of the smalleye squaretail, Tetragonurus cuvieri Risso, 1810, (39.2 cm in total length) was caught with a commercial trammel net at a depth of 550 m in January 2022 from Mersin Bay (NE Mediterranean, Turkey). This is the first record of T. cuvieri in the Northeastern Mediterranean, Turkey. Morphological measurements of the specimen were made and recorded with the catalog number (MEUFC-22-11-134) in the Museum of Marine Life, Mersin University.
