Metaphoric Conceptualization of Love Pain or Suffering in Turkish Songs through Natural Phenomena and Natural Disasters

Monoamine oxidase-A gene promoter polymorphism in female migraineurs

Objective: To assess whether there is a relationship between monoamine oxidase-A (MAOA) gene promoter polymorphism and migraine in female patients. Study design: A polymerase chain reaction based study in which MAOA promoter polymorphism was studied in 54 female migraineurs and 52 controls. Methods: The low (3-repeat) and high (one of 3.5, 4 or 5 repeat units) activityMAOA alleles were detected. The genotypes and allele frequencies were compared both within and between the groups. Results: The representation of both low (1/ 1) and high (2/ 2) activity genotypes were similar between the female migraineurs and controls. The aim of this work was to develop a measurement for the expectations of pregnant women about breastfeeding and examine the psychometric properties of the scale. The study was conducted with two separate samples, including women who were �28 weeks pregnant. The first sample, comprising 322 women aged 19 to 49 years (M ¼ 28.19; SD ¼ 4.86), was formed to conduct an exploratory factor analysis (EFA). The second sample, which consisted of 274 women aged 18 to 42 years (M ¼ 28.16; SD ¼ 4.85), was formed to conduct a confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). Objective: In this study we aimed to evaluate the relationship between temporomandibular joint pain and dysfunction (TMJPD) within the frame of monoamine oxidase-A gene (MAO-LPR) gene polymorphism. Methods: Ninety-three patients with TMJPD, and 91 healthy volunteers were included in the study. Symptom Checklist-90-Revised (SCL-90-R), Montgomery-Asberg Depression Rating Scale (MADRS), and State and Trait Anxiety Inventory tests (STAI-I and STAI-II) were applied to the patients that were diagnosed as having TMJPD according to the standard clinical examination protocol. The 1998 October Crisis between Turkey and Syria has long been studied in various aspects. However, these studies are limited to an understanding that depicts the crisis as a relational power relationship in which Turkey forced Syria to cease its support for the PKK, which Syria would not have done otherwise. While not rejecting the relational explanation, this paper attempts to complement it with a structural approach, drawing on the post-positivist structural power conceptualization, by investigating how Syria’s structurally shaped subjective interests in the post-Cold War international structure and norms regarding international terrorism disempowered it resisting Turkey’s demands.

Investigation of the role of K-ATP channels in the cytotoxic effect of cypermethrin on rat-derived aortic smooth muscle cells

We investigate role of ATP sensitive potassium (KATP) channel in cytotoxic effect of cypermethrin on rat aortic smooth muscle cells. Cytotoxicity analysis was performed at 0, 0.1, 0.5, 10, 50, and 100 µM concentrations of cypermethrin and the cell index (CI) was calculated. KATP currents were recorded using patch clamp technique for 50 and 100 µM concentrations and channel conductivity was determined by obtaining current-voltage characteristics. No cytotoxic effect was observed in the first 72 hours. At the 96th hour, only at 100 µM concentration, the CI value decreased significantly compared to control group and at 120 and 144th hours, it was observed that the CI value decreased significantly at all concentrations.
