ABSTRACT
Background: This study aims to evaluate the cariogenic and erosive effects of pediatric liquid medicines (PLM) on the enamel of primary teeth, which have been increasingly used in children with acute or chronic diseases.
Methods: Five long-term and widely used pediatric drugs (Augmentin, Zimaks, Calpol, Vitabiol, and Ferro Sanol B) were selected for this study. In order to evaluate the erosive and cariogenic potentials of the drugs, the sucrose concentrations, pH values and calcium concentrations they dissolve from the enamel tissue were determined. The samples were subjected to acid incineration with MARS XPress (CEM Brand) Microwave oven. Calcium concentrations were then measured by Inductively Coupled Plasma-Mass Spectroscopy (ICP MS). For the statistical data of the study, i...
Photography is basically the art of imaging and recording these images. Dental photography is a sub-branch of this, and has facilitated and improved the daily dental clinical practice of dentists with modern equipment and advanced technologies. It ensures that the documents are aesthetically perfect for more effective and beneficial use from a clinical perspective. Visual documentation allows the dentist to better understand the patient and evaluate the treatment process, while at the same time increasing patient motivation. It plays a critical role in supporting diagnosis and treatment planning, patient-doctor communication, educational processes and marketing. It has been reported to be used in many areas such as oral hygiene motivation, legal documentation and communication with the lab...
Background: The aim of the present study was to determine
radiographically the prevalence of developmental abnormalities
of size and form of teeth in patients attending the Dental Faculty
of Near East University of Cyprus and to evaluate the relationship
between gender differences and these anomalies. There are no
previously reported dental records and epidemiologic data available
for this population.
Methods: A retrospective study based on the panoramic radiographs
of 4672 patients aged 16 to 82 attended from January 2007 to
February 2010 was performed in this population. Radiographs were
studied in detail for the presence of possible dental anomalies with 9
examiners. International classification for diseases (ICD) codes was
used for the selection and coding of dental anomali...
