INVESTIGATION OF ULEXITE USAGE IN AUTOMOTIVE BRAKE FRICTION MATERIALS

Sugözü, Banu

The automotive brake pads are multi-component composites made up of many materials. There are many studies in the literature exploring the use of many different materials in brake pads. In this study, the use of ulexite which is a commercially valuable derivatives of boron that 65% of the total world reservations exists in Turkey were researched for brake pad material. For this purpose, three brake pad specimens containing ulexite differing in amount (3, 6 and 9 wt.%) were produced by a conventional procedure for a dry formulation following dry-mixing, pre-forming and hot pressing. The density of the specimens was determined based on Archimedes principle in water. The surface hardness of all brake pad specimens was measured using Rockwell hardness tester. The friction performance of the br...

AN INTEGRATED APPROACH BASED ON THE TAGUCHI METHOD AND RESPONSE SURFACE METHODOLOGY TO OPTIMIZE PARAMETER DESIGN OF ASBESTOS-FREE BRAKE PAD MATERIAL

Sugözü, Banu

Braking pressure and sliding velocity can affect wear behavior of brake pad material, so sliding velocity and braking pressure is often regarded as the key factor in defining quality performance of this material. For this reason, Taguchi Method has been used to screen the variables that have significant effects on the wear rate. Furthermore, an integrated approach of Taguchi Method and Response Surface Methodology has been employed to improve an empirical model for predicting wear rate and optimization of control factors. It has been observed that an integrated approach based on Taguchi Method and Response Surface Methodology gives 15.45% lower wear rate as compared to optimal results obtained from Taguchi method.

SWOT analysis of green building systems in real estate development

Ünel, Fatma Bünyan

Sustainable and green facts are important for leaving a healthy environment for future generations. These facts are like sustainable development, sustainable city, green building, green economy, and so on. Green building is an innovative solution to sustainable urban planning problems. In this study, green building, sustainability, development processes are examined, and the opportunities and threats of green buildings with their strengths and weaknesses are determined by SWOT analysis. Besides, the construction cost and energy savings of a green building are compared to the traditional building. As a result of SWOT analysis, besides its significant strengths such as sustainability of green buildings, low energy consumption, and independence of energy consumption, high initial investment c...
