Bu araştırmanın temel amacı İzmir Metro sistemi çevresinde meydana gelen mekânsal değişim ve gelişimle birlikte demografik değişimlerin incelenmesi ve planlama pratiğinin yerinin irdelenmesidir. Bu kapsamda metro hattının 1000 metrelik etki alanı içinde gerçekleştirilen plan tadilatları ve kent bütününde yarattığı demografik ve çevresel etkiler incelenmiş, metro hattının inşasıyla aralarındaki ilişki analiz edilmiştir. Yapılan analiz ve araştırma sonucunda metro hattının mahallelerdeki nüfus ve yoğunluk değişimleri üzerinde anlamlı bir etkisi olmadığı, Kazımdirik mahallesi haricinde anlamlı değişimlerin meydana gelmediği ve yapılan plan tadilatlarının tekil talepler üzerinden devam ederek kapsamlı değişimlerin meydana gelmediği bulunmuştur.
