Introduction and purpose: Syrian refugee women are one of the risk groups in the field of health. The purpose of this study is to determine the healthy lifestyle behaviors and mental states of Syrian refugee women with low socio-economic status living outside the camps. Method: The universe of the descriptive study consisted of 120 Syrian refugee women enrolled in the Turkish language course at the Karacaoğlan Public Education Center in the Akdeniz district of Mersin in the spring semester of 2015-2016. Cultural competence is defined as having the attitudes, knowledge and skills that are necessary for providing quality care to culturally different groups; in other words, it is the capacity to provide culturally satisfactory care (Douglas et al., 2009; Loftin et al., 2013). To be able to provide a culturally satisfactory care service, it is necessary to know the culture of the people to whom the service is being delivered because culture influences all health-related behaviors.
