Özçimen Ahmet Ata | Ünal Selma | Yılmaz Melis | Karahan Feryal | Aksu, Seçkin

This study’s objective was to assess the relationship between serum cytokine levels and the occurrence of pulp necrosis (PN) and apical periodontitis (AP) in adolescents with Sickle Cell Disease (SCD). A total of 52 adolescents, including 29 individuals diagnosed with SCD, participated in the study. Serum cytokine levels including IL-1, IL-2, IL-4, IL-6, IL-1β, IL-8, IL-10, IL-17, and TNF-α were analyzed. Radiological and intraoral dental examinations were conducted on the same day. Electric pulp testing and cold tests were conducted on all intact crowned teeth to assess the presence of PN. Periapical index scores were derived from panoramic and periapical radiographs to identify teeth exhibiting AP. Statistical analyses were carried out using Student’s t-test, Chi-square test, Spea...

İmidacloprid’in zebra balığı (Danio rerio) ince bağırsak dokuları üzerine histopatolojik etkileri

Resolving the Lourinia armata (Claus, 1866) complex with remarks on the monophyletic status of Louriniidae, Monard 1927 (Copepoda: Harpacticoida)

KARAYTUĞ SUPHAN

An attempt was made to test if Lourinia armata (Claus, 1866)—as it is currently diagnosed—represents a species complex. Detailed examination and comparisons of several specimens collected from different localities suggest that L. armata indeed represents a complex of four closely related morphospecies that can be differentiated from one another by only detailed observations. One of the four species is identified as Lourinia aff. armata and the other three species are described as new to science and named as Lourinia wellsi sp. nov., L. gocmeni sp. nov., and L. aldabraensis sp. nov. Detailed review of previous species records indicates that the genus Lourinia Wilson, 1924 is distributed worldwide. Ceyloniella nicobarica Sewell, 1940, originally described from Nicobar Island and previously ...

A faunistic and ecological study on Papilionoidea and Hesperioidea (Lepidoptera) of Sultandağları Mountains (Afyonkarahisar/Turkey)

Hüseyinoğlu, Yusuf

In this study, the fauna of Papilionoidea and Hesperioidea (Lepidoptera) from Sultandağları Mountains, Afyonkarahisar province, in Turkey were investigated. Field collections were conducted between March and August from 1997 to 2001. Individuals were collected from 110 field surveys. The specimens belonged to 131 species in seven families, including Papilionidae (6 species), Pieridae (17), Libytheidae (1), Argynnidae (21), Satyridae (24), Lycaenidae (45), and Hesperiidae (17). Tomares nesimachus (Oberthür, 1893) was identified for the first time in Afyonkarahisar and fourteen of the 131 species were new records for the Lepidoptera fauna of Sultandağları Mountains.

Epidemiological and molecular characterization of Enterobius vermicularis cases in Mersin, Turkey: An analysis based on mitochondrial DNA cox1 gene sequences

Gülbudak Harun | Tezcan Ülger Seda | Bozok Taylan | Aslan Gönül

Enterobius vermicularis is among the most common intestinal helminths, especially in children. Mitochondrial cox1 gene analyses revealed three genotypes (A, B, C). We aimed to evaluate the epidemiological characteristics and cox1 genotypes of E. vermicularis cases diagnosed at Mersin University Hospital. Between January 2017 and December 2023, 1496 samples were examined using the cellophane tape method, and 75 positives were identified. Epidemiological data were retrospectively analyzed. DNA was isolated from 30 positive samples via the phenol–chloroform method, and nested PCR products of the cox1 gene were sequenced. Phylogenetic analyses were performed using GenBank sequences. In a sample of patients with gastrointestinal signs, the positivity rate for E. vermicularis was 5 % (75/1496)...

A new species of Ochridacyclops (Kiefer, 1937) (Copepoda, Cyclopoida) from Japan

KARAYTUĞ SUPHAN

A new species of cyclopoid copepod, Ochridacyclops nipponensis is described from Japan. This is the third species of the genus. The type material was collected from small streams in the mountainous regions in Shikoku. The new species can easily be distinguished from other members of genus by its 12-segmented antennule, by the proportional length of genital double-somite relative to the length of 3 free abdominal somites, and by the shape of caudal rami. The male is unknown.
