Differential effects of perceptions of equal, favourable and unfavourable autonomy support on educational and well-being outcomes

Ada, Elif Nilay

In this study, we examined whether high-school students experienced optimal educational and well-being outcomes when they perceived that they and their classmates received an equal, rather than unequal, and high amount of autonomy support from teachers. In a prospective study that aimed to predict academic grades and well-being outcomes, surface analyses of polynomial regression equations pointed that perceptions of equal autonomy support were the most optimal in terms of yielding highest levels of need satisfaction, autonomous forms of motivation and happiness with math courses. Additionally, in accordance with tenets of self-determination theory, we demonstrated that effects associated with perceptions of equal autonomy support were mediated by autonomous forms of motivation and psycholo...

Automated detection of quiet eye durations in archery using electrooculography and comparative deep learning models

Söğüt, Fatma | Yanık, Hüseyin | Değirmenci, Evren | Kesilmiş, İnci | Çömelekoğlu, Ülkü

This study presents a deep learning-based approach for the automated detection of Quiet Eye (QE) durations from electrooculography (EOG) signals in archery. QE—the final fixation or tracking of the gaze before executing a motor action—is a critical factor in precision sports. Traditional detection methods, which rely on expert evaluations, are inherently subjective, time-consuming, and inconsistent. To overcome these limitations, EOG data were collected from 10 licensed archers during controlled shooting sessions and preprocessed using a wavelet transform and a Butterworth bandpass filter for noise reduction. We implemented and compared a traditional model (SVM) and five deep learning models—CNN+LSTM, CNN+GRU, Transformer, UNet, and 1D CNN—for QE detection. The CNN+LSTM model achiev...

The Mediator Role of Sport Competence and Physical Condition in the Motivational Climate and Personal-Social Responsibility in Physical Education

Ada, Elif Nilay | Pehlıvan, Zekai

Abstract This study aimed to separately examine the mediator role of two different variables in the relationship between perceived motivational climate and personal-social responsibility in physical education lessons. A total of 406 students (Mage = 12.91, SD = 1.01), 217 girls (Mage = 12.88, SD = 1.03) and 189 boys (Mage = 12.93, SD = 0.99), from the 6th, 7th, and 8th grades attended the study. In the research, the Learning and Performance Orientations in Physical Education Classes Questionnaire, the Personal-Social Responsibility Questionnaire, and Physical Self-Perception Inventory for Children (physical condition and sport competence) were used. To realize the purpose of the research, the measurement models were first tested using the structural equation model; next, multiple regressio...

Effects of myofascial exercises on instep kick biomechanics and myofascial elasticity

Deniz, Volkan | Işık, Aleyna | Kılcı, Abdullah | Kesilmiş, İnci

This study aimed to investigate the effects of an anterior superficial myofascial chain strengthening program on maximum ball speed, myofascial elasticity, muscle activation, and shank kinematics in young soccer players. A total of 32 licensed soccer players, aged 13–14 years, were recruited and randomly assigned to either an exercise group or a control group. Participants in the exercise group underwent an 8-week anterior superficial myofascial chain strengthening program consisting of three progressive phases. At baseline and after the 8-week intervention, the maximum ball speed during the instep kick was measured using a radar gun; muscle activation was assessed via surface electromyography; and shank rotational velocity and acceleration were recorded using an inertial measurement unit....

Motivational processes: can perceptions of fairness augment effects of favourable autonomy supportive practices on satisfaction of the basic psychological needs?

Ada, Elif Nilay

Abstract Based on Self-Determination theory and social interaction models of social justice, in this article we examined whether perceptions of fairness catalysed the positive effects autonomy support on motivational and well-being outcomes. The study was conducted in the context of an all-boys school with 302 students, adopting a prospective design. Using surface analysis to estimate the dependent variables to be tested in non-liner regressions, the current research empirically extends social interaction models of distributive justice by testing, for the first time, whether perceptions of fairness can moderate the effects of autonomy supportive practices on satisfaction of psychological needs. The results demonstrated that perceptions of fairness engendered positive effects of favourable ...

Eleven species were collected from Northwest Anatolian mountains (1500–2000 m) and 18 species were collected from the Central Anatolian steppes (850–1000 m) in June 1998 and 1999. In all the species investigated, the water and dry matter percentages and solute contents were measured. The chlorophyll, b-carotene, ascorbate and a-tocopherol contents and catalase (CAT), superoxide dismutase (SOD) andglutathione reductase (GR)enzymeactivities oftheplants werealsodetermined.Thesteppeplantshadlowerwatercontentcomparedwith alpine plants. The chlorophyll contents of the plants investigated did not change with altitude. However, the carotenoid/chlorophyll ratio of alpine plants was found to be significantly higher. The antioxidant/chlorophyll ratio of the trees and shrubs was higher than that of he...
