Comparison of zygoma plates and infrazygomatic crest miniscrews used open bite treatment: A 3-dimensional finite element study

Arslan Çarpar, Kübra

Introduction: This study aimed to evaluate infrazygomatic crest (IZC) miniscrews, which represent a new approach to maxillary posterior tooth intrusion and extra-alveolar skeletal anchorage, using 3-dimensional f inite element stress analysis to predict the clinical usability instead of zygoma plates. Methods: Six different models were developed. The direction of the intrusion force was generated parallel to the maxillary first molar, and the posterior bite-block intrusion appliance was connected with 2 steel arches. A zygoma plate, stainless steel (SS)-IZC miniscrew, and a titanium alloy (TiA)-IZC miniscrew were used as anchorage units, and 200 g and 400 g of intrusion forces were applied. The cortical bone, spongious bone, stress values, and displacements in the anchorage unit were exami...

Relation to Sociodemographic Factors and Habits with Dental Anxiety, Dental Fear, and Quality of Life among Students of Different Faculties

Arslan Çarpar, Kübra

Aim and objective: The study aimed to compare the dental fear, dental anxiety, and oral health-related quality of life of students of the faculty of dentistry, medical faculty, and other faculties and to examine the relationship between these variables and the demographic data and habits of individuals. Materials and methods: The study involving 1,230 (725 females, 505 males) students from Faculty of Dentistry (n = 439), medicine (n = 498), and other faculties (n = 293) studying at Kırıkkale University. Individuals have applied a questionnaire consisting of questions on oral hygiene habits, dentist visits, smoking and alcohol use in the first part and Dental Fear Scale (DFS), Modified Dental Anxiety Scale (MDAS), and Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP-14) in the second part. Results: ...

Katılımcıların 96’sı 4. sınıf öğrencisi, 75’i 5....

Orthodontics-Awareness Amongst Medical Students

Arslan Çarpar, Kübra

Introduction: The study aimed to evaluate the knowledge and awareness of orthodontics, a specialty of dentistry, amongst Medical Students. Materials and Method: A sample of 550 students (279 female, 226 male aged between 18 and 36 years) were attented.Of the subjects, 58.6% (n = 296) were preclinical students, while 41.4% (n = 209) were clinical students. The students were informed about the questionnaire and asked to fill in the questionnaire forms. For the comparison of data between groups (gender, level of education), the chi-square test was used. A chi-square test was used for statistical evaluation and the p-value < 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Result: 385 students (76.2%) had heard the term orthodontics although 41.2% of the subjects knew that orthod...

Digital three-dimensional planning of orthodontic miniscrew anchorage: A literature review

Arslan Çarpar, Kübra

Abstract Orthodontic miniscrews are used for skeletal orthodontic anchorage. An appropriate insertion technique is essential to avoid complications during miniscrew placement. The guides prepared using surface anatomy and 2D radiographs cannot correctly analyze bone volume. Advances in digital 3D medical technologies enabled orthodontists to use digital imaging, digital scanning, and 3D printing to accurately place miniscrews using a surgical guide developed with computer-aided design and manufacturing techniques. The objective of this article was to demonstrate the development of miniscrew placement techniques chronologically and provide brief information about the production, use, and efficiency of modern, digitally planned, and produced miniscrew insertion guides.
