This study systematically evaluates the existing literature on the financial exploitation of older adults, a multidisciplinary research topic encompassing law, finance, and social sciences, and identifies emerging research trends in the field. Using bibliometric analysis based on data from the Scopus database, 391 English-language articles and reviews published through the end of 2024 were examined in accordance with PRISMA guidelines. Bibliometrix software was used to assess publication and authorship patterns, while VOSviewer facilitated scientific mapping through co-citation, bibliographic coupling, co-authorship, and keyword co-occurrence analyses to uncover the conceptual, intellectual, and social structures of the field. The findings reveal a notable increase in academic interest since 2010, with the Journal of Elder Abuse and Neglect as the leading source, Wayne State University as the most influential institution, and the United States as the top contributing country. Co-citation analysis identifies Acierno et al. as the most cited work and Kathleen Wilber as the most central author. Commonly used keywords include “elder abuse,” “financial exploitation,” and “financial abuse.” Overall, the study highlights key thematic concentrations and the limited geographic diversity of research, underscoring the need for broader international engagement to support more inclusive scholarly and policy efforts in addressing elder financial exploitation.
