The sarcophagus considered in this article is located about 30 kms north of the
Tarsus city center in Sakızçukuru which is at the district of Sıraköy where an ancient
settlement has been discovered. There are many houses, workshops and olive - wine
production equipments in this settlement. The necropolis is located to the north of
the settlement where numerous sarcophagai were found. One of them has a special
importance in terms of having busts with a stele on it. The subject of this study is this
sarcophagus which has not been discussed in any study yet. Here the description, the
typological and iconographical comparisons as well as workshop suggestions will be
undertaken. Finally a dating will be proposed by considering the the busts and the form
of the sarcophagus.

Tarsus kent merkezinin yaklaşık 30 km kuzeyinde Sıraköy Mahallesi’ne bağlı
Sakızçukuru olarak adlandırılan mevkiide bir antik bir yerleşim keşfedilmiştir. Söz
konusu yerleşimde çok sayıda konut, atölye, işlik ve üretim donanımları bulunur.
Yerleşimin kuzeyinde nekropolisi yer alır. Burada çok sayıda lahit tespit edilmiştir.
Bunlardan bir tanesi, üzerinde büstlerin ve bir stelin olması bakımından özel bir öneme
sahiptir. Bu çalışmanın konusunu henüz herhangi bir çalışmada ele alınmamış büstlü
lahit oluşturmaktadır. Çalışmada ilk olarak lahdin tanımı yapılmaktadır Tipoloji, iko-
nografi ve atölye önerilerinin ardından büstlerden ve lahit formundan yola çıkılarak
tarihleme önerisinde bulunmaktadır.
