Educational institutions are among the institutions that can be addressed within the framework of “panopticism”, which Michel Foucault put forward to explain the surveillance society inspired by J. Bentham. These are areas where the authorities control, classify and discipline individuals as a panoptic device. In these areas, which can be called the “institution of confinement”, certain norms are legitimized, and individuals who obey domination are raised by creating consent beyond oppression. In a system based on discipline within a hierarchical order, individuals under domination are in a ‘submissive’ position and can also develop various resistance strategies. The movie Yurt (2023), directed and written by Nehir Tuna, includes domination and resistance as an ideological texture in the areas of ‘school’ and ‘dormitory’, two educational spaces representing the bipolar ideological atmosphere of Türkiye. Accordingly, the ‘school’ and ‘dormitory’ spaces in the movie are discussed in the context of Foucault’s concept of Panopticism, and the reaction of young students in these spaces to domination is analysed by descriptive analysis method within the framework of James Scott’s thoughts on domination and resistance. The main purpose of the study is to reveal the connection between the authority and elements and spaces that are included as an ideological texture in the movie, which is about a young person’s self-discovery story, and also to classify the resistance shown against the domination established by these spaces and elements. In line with this purpose, elements of material, status and ideological domination are detected in both spaces in the analyzed movie; it is revealed that certain resistance strategies are developed against actions such as creating and exploiting obedient bodies under the labels of hierarchical surveillance, control, discipline. However, it has been determined that different strategies of domination and resistance formed between the 'school', which was a state institution, and the 'dormitory' places where religious education was given, in accordance with the ideological atmosphere of the 90s.

Educational institutions are among the institutions that can be addressed within the framework of “panopticism”, which Michel Foucault put forward to explain the surveillance society inspired by J.
