A study on water quality and trophic state of Akgöl Lagoon (Mersin, Turkey).

MEHMET TAHİR ALP | YUNUS EMRE FAKIOĞLU | ÖZGÜR ÖZBAY

This study aimed to determine the physicochemical characteristics of the water quality and trophic state of Akgol Lagoon located in the eastern Mediterranean. Cluster analysis clearly revealed the € spatial heterogeneity classifying sampling stations as saline and freshwater/brackish water sites. A multivariate analysis of variance followed by principal component analysis supported that salinity was major factor affecting physicochemical water quality variations in the lagoon. As salinity was mainly governed by freshwater inflows depending on agricultural irrigation, it can be proposed that wa ...Daha fazlası

Not only Relationa lbut also Structural: Revisiting there solution of the 1998 October crisis through elements ofstructural power

BUĞRA SARI

he 1998 October Crisis between Turkey and Syria has long beenstudied in various aspects. However, these studies are limited to anunderstanding that depicts the crisis as a relational power relation-ship in which Turkey forced Syria to cease its support for the PKK,which Syria would not have done otherwise. While not rejecting therelational explanation, this paper attempts to complement it witha structural approach, drawing on the post-positivist structuralpower conceptualization, by investigating how Syria’s structurallyshaped subjective interests in the post-Cold War international struc-ture ...Daha fazlası

Effects of electromagnetic radiation on neurogenesis and gene expression in amniocytes

Coşar Uzun, Nurten Erdal, Özlem İzci Ay, Ümit Karakaş, Didem Derici Yildırım, Hüseyin Durukan, Mahmut Berat Akdag & Mehmet Emin Erdal

The aim of the study was to investigate the genetic effects of commonly used radiofrequency on the amniocytes of pregnant women by examining the changes in the expression of genes related to signal transduction and neurogenesis induced by electromagnetic fields of radiofrequencies of 1800 and 2100 MHz by real-time PCR. Upon exposure of the amniocytes to electromagnetic radiation of 2100 MHz at high field strength, the expression levels of genes with important functions in the Wnt signaling pathways as well as neurogenesis-related genes were increased. The findings suggest that radiofrequency a ...Daha fazlası

Significance of catechol-O-methyltransferase gene polymorphism in myofacial pain syndrome

MEHMET EMİN ERDAL

The objective was to investigate possible association of the catechol o-methyl transferase (COMT) gene polymorphisms with myofacial pain syndrome (MFPS). The polymorphism of the COMT gene was compared between 49 patients with MFPS and 113 control subjects. Relationship between COMT polymorphism and psychiatric status of the patients was also assessed using SCL-90-R, BDS, and STAI-I and II tests. A PCR-based restriction fragment length polymorphismassay was used to detect G ! A transition at position 1947 in COMT. There was no relationship between MFPS and COMT polymorphism (p > 0:05). The pati ...Daha fazlası
