Heavy Metal Distributions of Macroalgal Species From the Mersin Inner Bay, Türkiye

ÖZGÜR ÖZBAY | İSMAİL AKÇAY

The bio-accumulation of heavy metals in macroalgae poses significant risks to marine ecosystems and human health. In this study, heavy metal distributions of macroalgae and potential health risk assessment in the Mersin inner Bay were determined from macroalgae (Stypopodium schimperi, Padina pavonica, Laurencia obtusa, Dictyota sp., Sargassum vulgare, Jania rubens, Halopithys sp., Osmundea sp., Halopithys incurve, Ulva intestinalis, Entromorpha flexuosa, Ulva linza) samples collected between February and September 2021. The levels of heavy metals were found as 1.24-5.93 g/kg for aluminum, 0.61 ...Daha fazlası

Examining Teachers’ Computational Thinking Skills, Collaborative Learning, and Creativity Within the Framework of Sustainable Education

FUAT SERKAN SAY

This study seeks to explore the relationship between science teachers’ computational thinking skills, collaborative learning attitudes, and their creativity in the context of sustainable education. The study adopted an explanatory sequential design, which is one of the designs used in mixed-method research. A total of 369 science teachers were included in the quantitative phase of the study. Quantitative data were collected using three different scales. These scales included the “Computational Thinking Scale”, “Online Cooperative Learning Attitude Scale (OCLAS)”, and “Creative Self-Efficacy Sc ...Daha fazlası

Genetic Variants of Synaptic Vesicle and Presynaptic Plasma Membrane Proteins In Alzheimer’s Disease

MEHMET EMİN ERDAL | AYNUR ÖZGE

Background: Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most common cause of dementia in the elderly, and its etiology is still not fully understood. The aim of this study was to analyze the role of the genetic variants of two synaptic vesicle proteins (VAMP2, synapsin III) and two presynaptic plasma membrane proteins (syntaxin 1A, SNAP-25) in AD patients. We analyzed the functional polymorphisms of VAMP2, synapsin III, syntaxin 1A, and SNAP-25 genes. Method: Sixty-eight adult patients with Alzheimer disease and Seventy-eight healthy adults were included in the study. DNA was extracted from whole blood by ...Daha fazlası

Synaptosomal-Associated Protein 25 Gene Polymorphisms and Antisocial Personality Disorder: Association With Temperament and Psychopathy

MEHMET EMİN ERDAL

Objective: The molecular genetic of personality disorders has been investigated in several studies; however, the association of antisocial behaviours with synaptosomal-associated protein 25 (SNAP25) gene polymorphisms has not. This association is of interest as SNAP25 gene polymorphism has been associated with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder and personality. Methods: We compared the distribution of DdeI and MnlI polymorphisms in 91 young male offenders and in 38 sex-matched healthy control subjects. We also investigated the association of SNAP25 gene polymorphisms with severity of psy ...Daha fazlası

The Association of Olanzapine-Induced Weight Gain with Peroxisome Proliferator–Activated Receptor-g2 Pro12Ala Polymorphism in Patients with Schizophrenia

MEHMET EMİN ERDAL | İBRAHİM ÖMER BARLAS

Olanzapine is a second-generation antipsychotic that may cause weight gain and metabolic syndrome in some cases. The peroxisome proliferator–activated receptor (PPAR)-g is an important gene in the progress of type II diabetes and metabolic syndrome. In recent studies the polymorphism of the PPAR-g has been studied in type II diabetes mellitus, polycystic ovary syndrome, and insulin resistance syndrome. It is aimed to evaluate the association between polymorphism of PPAR-g gene and olanzapine-induced weight gain. Our study comprised 95 unrelated subjects who strictly met Diagnostic and Statisti ...Daha fazlası

Role of nitric oxide synthase gene intron 4 and exon 7 polymorphisms in obstructive sleep apnea syndrome

MEHMET EMİN ERDAL

The objective of our study was to assess the association of eNOS4 and eNOS296 polymorphisms of endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) gene with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS). Forty-eight patients with OSAS and 181 healthy volunteers were included in the study. Genotype analyses were performed for eNOS intron 4 VNTR and exon 7, Glu298Asp (G!T) polymorphisms. There was no signiWcant diVerence between the patients and controls regarding eNOS4 polymorphism (P > 0.05). There was a signiWcant diVerence between the patients and controls regarding eNOS296 polymorphism. Glu/Asp variant was ...Daha fazlası

Association of serotonin transporter gene-linked polymorphic region and variable number of tandem repeat polymorphism of the serotonin transporter gene in lichen simplex chronicus patients with psychiatric status

MEHMET EMİN ERDAL

Background The serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine; 5-HT) is a key neurotransmitter in the central nervous system and a responsible mediator for the itch. Dysregulation of serotonergic pathways has been implicated in the pathogenesis of many complex neuropsychiatric diseases. Objectives The purpose of this study was to evaluate the relationship between lichen simplex chronicus and dysfunction and serotonin transporter (5-HTT) gene polymorphism. Methods Thirty-nine patients with lichen simplex chronicus and 61 healthy control subjects were examined. Results The results for the patients and control s ...Daha fazlası

Serotonin transporter gene polymorphisms in patients with chronic tension-type headache: A preliminary study

MEHMET EMİN ERDAL

Background and Objectives: This study is designed to understand the pathophysiology of one of the most serious health problems, chronic tension-type headache (CTTH). Two polymorphic sites in serotonin transporter protein gene attracted much interest. These are: the variable number of tandem repeats (VNTR) and 5'-flanking promoter region (5-HTTLPR). Materials and Methods: VNTR and 5-HTTLPR polymorphisms were investigated in 126 CTTH patients and 138 healthy control subjects. The patients were being treated with amitripytyline or citalopram or sertraline (SSRI). The polymerase chain reaction (PC ...Daha fazlası

The A218C polymorphism of tryptophan hydroxylase gene and migraine

NURTEN ERDAL | MEHMET EMİN ERDAL

Objective: To determine the significance of the A218C polymorphism of the tryptophan hydroxylase (TPH) gene in migraine. Methods: Fifty-nine migraineurs and 62 healthy controls were included in the study, and polymerase chain reaction – restriction fragment length polymorphism assays were used to determine TPH A218C polymorphism. Results: There was no association between TPH gene polymorphism and gender, family history of migraine and epilepsy, or aura. There was no significant difference between the allele frequencies of both groups (p > 0.05). A significant difference was found between the g ...Daha fazlası
