Effectiveness of Different Weed Management Methods in Silage Maize (Zea mays L.) and Effect on Yield

Demir, Bünyamin

In this study, the determination of the effect of band herbicide, hoeing, brushing and flaming methods that has been used especially row crops on weed management on the parameters of weed management and yield in silage maize has been aimed. Tillage, seed bed preparation, planting and fertilization were applied at the all area of experiment plots with the same method weed management tool and machines have been run at three different ground speeds. After application the number of weeds in the experimental areas were determined using the framework with 0.5 m2 and compared with the control plots. The best weed control in the weed management areas was determined in the lowest ground speed of Band Herbicide Method with a value of 79% in the 1st year and 81% in the 2nd year. The speed increasing ...

Accumulation and Effect of Chromium on Protein and Glycogen Levels of Palaemonetes pugio

Çiftçi, Nuray | Karaytuğ, Sahire | Karayakar, Fahri | Ay, Özcan | Cicik, Bedii

Total metal accumulation and the levels of total protein and glycogen were measured in Palaemonetes pugio after exposing the animals to 0.05, 0.1 and 0.2 ppm concentrations of chromium over 1, 7 and 15 days. Metal accumulation in tisuues was measured using atomic absorbtion spectrophotometric techniques and the levels of total protein and glycogen were determined Lowry and Anthron methods, respectively. No mortality was observed under the effect of chromium at any concentrations and exposure periods tested. Total metal accumulation increased with increasing concentrations of chromium at given exposure period while total protein and glycogen levels showed a decrease on day 15th compared with day 1.

Effect of Dietary Lipid Sources on the Growth and Body Fatty Acid Composition of Sea Bass Dicentrarchus labrax L. 1758

HUNT, ARZU ÖZLÜER

This study was carried out in Yumurtalik Marine Research Station, University of Cukurova in Turkey. In this study was aimed to determine the effects of different levels of soybean oil and fish oil on growth and body fatty acid composition of sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax). Initial mean body weights of test subjects were 4.80±0.25 g. The fish were housed within experimental, 210 l of experimental fiberglass tanks (20 fish/tank). Fish of all groups were fed on five different levels feed a 105 day period. The fish group fed with Diet 1 (12% Fish Oil = FO) followed by Diet 5 (12% Soybean Oil = SBO) showed the highest growth performance. In this study saturated, monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fatty acid changes in all groups were significant (p>0.05). On the basis of these results it can ...

Accumulation of copper in liver, gill and muscle tissues of Anguilla anguilla (Linnaeus, 1758).

Karayakar, Fahri | Cicik, Bedii | Ciftci, Nuray | Karaytug, Sahire | Ay, Özcan

Accumulation of copper in liver, gill and muscle tissues of Anguilla anguilla was studied after exposing the animals to 1.00, 2.00 and 4.00 ppm Cu over 96 h period. The levels of metals in the studied tissues were determined using atomic absorption spectrophotometric techniques. All the copper concentrations tested increased the tissue levels of the metal significantly in liver and gill tissues compared to control fish while metal accumulation in muscle tissue was statistically significant only at 4.00 ppm Cu. Accumulation of the metal in gill tissue showed no difference between the concentrations tested despite the differences observed in liver and muscle tissues. Accumulation of the metal was highest in liver tissue and lowest in muscle tissue.

The effects of vitamin A and E supplementation into the female broodstock diets of Rainbow Trout Oncorhyinchus mykiss W on the fecundity and egg quality parameters

Bilgüven, Murat

This study investigated the effects of different levels of vitamins A and E inclusion in diets on feclllldity, egg fertilization and hatching rate infemale brood fish of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss, W.). In this respects 7 diets including control diets (no vitamin A and E) containing two fixed amollllt of vitamin A with increasing doses of vitamin E (50, 100 ve 150 mg kg-1 in diets containing fixed amormt of vitamin A). Total number of 350 female and 70 male brood fish that had average mean body weight of 2-3 kg and 3+ aged stock were employed in this investigation. A total of 50 female and 10 male brood fish was stocked into each experimental concrete ponds. Investigation lasted in 70 days and randomly selected 15 female brood fish were spavvned for eggs at the end of the study. Th...

Accumulation of Chromium in Liver Gill and Muscle Tissues of Orechromis niloticus

Çiftçi, Nuray | Cicik, Bedii | Ay, Özcan

The aim of the present study was to determine the levels of chromium in the liver, gill and muscle tissues of Oreochromis niloticus after exposing the animals to 1.0, 2.0 and 4.0 ppm chromium over 96 h. Metal levels in the tissues studied were determined using atomic absorbrtion techniques. Although, some behavioral disturbances were observed in the chromium exposed fish at the beginning of experiments, no mortalities were observed at the end of 96 h. Exposure to chromium increased tissue levels of the metal except the muscle tissue while tissue accumulation increased with increasing concentration of the metal in the medium. Maximum accumulation was observed in the gill tissue at the lowest concentration tested, whereas accumulation was higher in the liver tissue at 2.0 and 4.0 ppm ...

Effects of cadmium on sera glucose and cortisol levels in Clarias gariepinus (Burchell, 1822).

Karaytuğ, Sahire | Karayakar, Fahri | Çiftçi, Nuray | Cicik, Bedii | Ay, Özcan

The effects of cadmium on sera glucose and cortisol levels of Clarias gariepinus was studied after exposing the animals to 0.25, 0.50 and 1.00 ppm Cd over 30 days. An autoanalyser was used in determining sera parameters. Sera glucose levels showed no significant difference between the control and 0.25 and 0.50 ppm Cd exposed fish whereas 1.00 ppm cadmium decreased sera glucose significantly (p

Transition of wild-caught juvenile pikeperch, Sander lucioperca (Bogustkaya and Naseka, 1996) to dry feed using different types of food.

HUNT, ARZU ÖZLÜER

Wild-caught juvenile pikeperch (Sander lucioperca [Stizostedion lucioperca]; 6.21±0.38 g and 7.80±0.24 cm) were offered different types of food and tested for their transition to dry feed. Eight groups (including control) were fed according to the experimental feeding regime for 28 days. Group A (control) was fed with live Gambusia affinis fries alone. As initial feeding (the first 7 days of the experiment) before transition to dry feed, groups B, C and D were offered live food, whereas groups E and F were offered moist feed (minced bait shrimp meat and minced fish meat, respectively). Groups G and H were offered semi-moist feed (a mixture of fish meat + dry feed and a mixture of bait shrimp meat + dry feed, respectively). To determine their preferences and acceptance of different feeds, s...
