ayşe tuğba ertürk avunduk | sevim atılan yavuz | hande filiz | Cengiz Yanardag, Esra

This study aimed to compare polishing systems on color stability, surface roughness, and gloss of additively manufactured permanent and conventional resin composites. Totally 250 disc specimens (6 mm*2 mm) were prepared from resin-based materials [G-ænial Posterior (GP), Clearfil Majesty Esthetic (CME), SonicFill-2 (SF), Tescera (Tes), and Crowntec (CT)]. Following baseline color (ΔE00), gloss (GU), and surface roughness (Ra) measurements, the specimens were randomly divided into 5 groups (n= 10/group) according to polishing systems: Control (mylar strips); OneGloss; OneGloss + Platina Hi-Gloss; OptiDisc; and OptiDisc + Platina Hi-Gloss. Specimens were immersed in coffee for 144 h following polishing. ΔE00, GU, and Ra measurements were repeated. Atomic force microscopy images were taken in...

Association between serum cytokine levels with pulp necrosis and apical periodontitis in sickle cell disease

Özçimen Ahmet Ata | Ünal Selma | Yılmaz Melis | Karahan Feryal | Aksu, Seçkin

This study’s objective was to assess the relationship between serum cytokine levels and the occurrence of pulp necrosis (PN) and apical periodontitis (AP) in adolescents with Sickle Cell Disease (SCD). A total of 52 adolescents, including 29 individuals diagnosed with SCD, participated in the study. Serum cytokine levels including IL-1, IL-2, IL-4, IL-6, IL-1β, IL-8, IL-10, IL-17, and TNF-α were analyzed. Radiological and intraoral dental examinations were conducted on the same day. Electric pulp testing and cold tests were conducted on all intact crowned teeth to assess the presence of PN. Periapical index scores were derived from panoramic and periapical radiographs to identify teeth exhibiting AP. Statistical analyses were carried out using Student’s t-test, Chi-square test, Spea...

The effect of resveratrol application on the micro-shear bond strength of adhesive to bleached enamel

Cengiz Yanardag, Esra

The aim is to investigate the effect of resveratrol on micro-shear bond strength (µSBS) of adhesive to enamel after 40% hydrogen peroxide application. For µSBS test, 50 teeth were obtained, 2/3 of crowns were embedded into acrylic resin. After application of hydrogen peroxide twice, teeth were randomly allocated to control group and 9 groups (n = 15) according to concentrations (0.5, 1, 2 µM) and application periods (10, 30, 60 min) of resveratrol. Following, composite resin was placed onto enamel surfaces using 3 tygon tubes for each tooth. µSBS test was performed and failure modes were displayed. To analyze µSBS values, Kruskal Wallis and Mann-Whitney U tests were performed. µSBS values of 1 µM resveratrol for 10 min applied group were statistically higher than control group (p < 0.05). ...

Evaluation of the effect of resveratrol on bone healing after tooth extraction in rats treated with zoledronic acid

Kucuk, Ayse Ozcan | Ak, Burak | Yılmaz, Şakir Necat | Kibar, Deniz | Gök, Ayşe Betül

This study aimed to evaluate the potential use of resveratrol on bone healing after tooth extraction in zoledronic acid-treated rats. Seventy-two Wistar rats were separated into 4 groups of 18: no drugs (control group), zoledronic acid (ZA), resveratrol (RES), zoledronic acid + resveratrol (ZA + RES). The first and second molars of each rat were extracted and nine rats from each group were sacrificed on days 14 and 28. The extraction sites and blood samples were analyzed histologically, immunohistochemically and biochemically. The epithelization, connective tissue, new bone formation in RES group was significantly higher compared to ZA and ZA + RES groups on day 28. The connective tissue in control group was significantly higher compared to ZA and ZA + RES groups on days 14 and 28. BMP-4 l...

The effectiveness of orthodontic treatment with clear aligners in different thicknesses

Cengiz, Saniye Merve

This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness, pain, and satisfaction levels of patients treated with different thicknesses of clear aligners among class I maxillary mild crowding cases. Twenty-eight subjects were randomly divided into two groups. Group 1 were treated with 0.5 mm-thick aligners and group 2 were treated with 0.75 mm-thick aligners. Maxillary models were printed using a 3-dimensional printer and aligners were produced using a vacuum thermoforming machine. The amount of orthodontic tooth movement was evaluated by comparing pre- and post-treatment digital models and lateral cephalograms taken at the beginning and end of the treatment. Pain and satisfaction levels were measured before aligner insertion, at the 4th hour, 2nd day, 1st week, 1st month and at the end of the treatm...

Use of dental photography in pediatric dentistry practice

Sahin, Meryem

This study assesses how pediatric dentists currently use dental photography in clinical practice, including the frequency, reasons, challenges faced, coping strategies, equipment used, and to examinedifferences based on gender, institution, title, and experience. An online survey with 29 questions, created using Google Forms, was distributed to 195 specialists, research assistants, and academiciansin pediatric dentistry from January to June 2025. Pediatric dentists who volunteered and completedthe survey were included in the study. Results were analyzed with IBM SPSS Statistics Version 21.Dental photography was used in pediatric dentistry to a limited extent, especially in trauma cases, and more frequently in university hospitals. The main challenges were cooperation and anatomicallimitations...
