New phosphine-amino-alcohol tridentate ligands for ruthenium catalyzed asymmetric transfer hydrogenation of ketones

Altan, Orhan | Yılmaz, Mustafa Kemal

New phosphine-amino-alcohol tridentate ligands (3a-c) and six new ruthenium complexes (4a-c and 5a-c) were synthesized and characterized. Catalytic activities of the metal complexes were tested on aryl alkyl ketones. All of the substrates were converted to related sec-alcohols in excellent yields (up to 99%), but enantioselectivities were insufficient (up to 40% ee). Despite the catalytic performance of 5a-c complexes can be considered as better than 4a-c, actually the catalytic activity of the complexes has been differed according to substrate. The ketones with less positive carbonyl carbons tend to give S-configuration with 5a-c and R-configuration with 4a-c. The catalytic performance of the complexes was rationalized by means of DFT calculations.

Investigation of the anticancer of photodynamic therapy effects by using the novel Schiff base ligand palladium complexes on human breast cancer cell line

Demirbağ, Burcu | Ballı, Ebru | Orekici Temel, Gülhan | Yılmaz, Mustafa Kemal | Değirmenci, Evren | Kibar, Deniz

Chemotherapy plays a role in many cancer therapies, including breast cancer, but due to its significant side effects, alternate treatment approaches have been investigated. One such alternative is photodynamic therapy (PDT), which employs a combination of oxygen, a photosensitizer (PS), and light of a specific wavelength. Transition metal complexes and SBL have gained interest in PDT. In this study aimed to assess the potential antitumor activity and underlying mechanism of a newly synthesized Schiff base ligand (SBL)-mediated PDT on MCF-7 cells, comparing its efficacy to cisplatin. We synthesized and characterized two novel Pd-conjugated SBL compounds (complex-1 and 2). Following the treatment of MCF-7 cells with these compounds, a light-emitting diode (LED) was utilized to deliver a ligh...

Palladium(II) complexes with aminomethylphosphine ligands as catalysts for the heck reaction

Mustafa Kemal Yılmaz

New, aminomethyldiphosphine(P C N) ligands, ((C6 H5 ) 2 PCH2 ) 2 NR (R = C6 H3(CH3 )(OH) (1a), C6 H4 OC6 H5 (1b), C6 H4 SC6 H5 )(1c)) and their Pd(II) complexes have been syn-thesized and characterized. These complexes werefound to be efficient catalysts in the Heck reaction ofactivated and deactivated aryl halide with a varietyof olefins.

Synthesis, characterization, and thermal decomposition of fluorinated salicylaldehyde Schiff base derivatives (salen) and their complexes with copper(II)

Mustafa Kemal Yılmaz | Göktürk Avşar

Trifluoromethoxy functionalized copper(II) Schiff base complexes N,N0 -bis(5-trifluoromethoxysalicylaldehyde)cyclohexanediiminatodiaquacopper(II) and N,N0 - bis(5-trifluoromethoxysalicylaldehyde)phenylenediiminatocopper(II) were synthesized and characterized. Thermal decompositions of the synthesized complexes were studied by thermogravimetry in order to evaluate their thermal stability and thermal decomposition pathways. Three similar decomposition steps occurred for the two copper complexes. Mass losses and evolved gasses were characterized by TG/DTA-MS. Kinetic parameters were calculated and the results showed that the values obtained are comparable.

New perfluorinated rhodium-BINAP catalysts and hydrogenation of styrene in supercritical CO2

Yılmaz Mustafa Kemal

New perfluorinated BINAP ligands and their cationic rhodium complexes have been synthesized and characterized. The catalysts have been tested in homogeneous hydrogenation of the styrene in both methanol and supercritical carbon dioxide (scCO2). The selective hydrogenations of the styrene in scCO2 were carried out under the same reaction conditions of 343.15 K temperature and 120 bar CO2 pressure after 3 h (molar ratio of substrate to catalyst = 500). While all catalysts showed 100% conversion in methanol, same activity was not carried out in scCO2. (R)-6,6 -diperflorooktil-2,2 -bis(diphenylphosphino)-1,1 -binaphtyl- [Rh(COD)]BArF was showed the highest conversion (96.4%) in scCO2. Furthermore, methanol was used as co-solvent in the supercritical media in hydrogenation of styrene fo...
